Medical professionals in Mumbai are once again seeing cases of Covid-19 with symptoms of lower respiratory tract infections involving the lungs in elderly people and people with underlying illnesses. Over the past few weeks, lung involvement has also been observed in those who have received vaccinations.

This observation among doctors is supported by a quick review of over 200 Covid-19 patients who were hospitalized in different medical colleges of the state. Omicron has mostly been known to cause upper respiratory tract infections, including sore throats, runny noses, irritation, and throat swelling. However, recently, in some patients the illness has spread to their lungs.

A day after surpassing the 1,200-case threshold, Mumbai experienced a decrease as 1,011 further Covid cases were recorded on Friday. The city′s positivity rate also decreased from 11% the day before to 7.5%. On Friday, the city recorded 70 admissions, the most in a single day in the previous 52 days. The total number of patients in hospitals has increased to 509. Around 20 patients in Mumbai′s Covid-19 hospitals are on oxygen support, and 17 are on ventilators.

Experts said that the more severe symptoms start to appear on the sixth or seventh day. They said a small change in symptoms is not concerning, but the monsoon and the ongoing flu are anticipated to worsen the matter. Hypoxia is being observed even in patients with influenza H1N1. As a result, medical professionals have recommended patients continuously monitor any high fever that persists and see a doctor as soon as possible.
